Useful tips for your vacation on the island of St Barts

Passports & Immigration
We recommend that U.S. citizens always travel with a valid passport whenever traveling outside of the continental US. Valid passports are required for US citizens (including children) entering St Barts. Other nationals may need visas, please check with the embassy of the island to see if you need a special visa. When bringing a nanny or babysitter, please be sure that they too have appropriate documentation.

Arrival
It is fundamental that you notify HomeinStBarts of your complete flight/transportation itinerary so that you can be welcomed at the airport (or harbor). If you are arriving by boat, please provide us with any and all details you have. If your flight/transportation is delayed, please contact our concierge team so that we can make arrangements to meet you upon arrival.

St Barts Car Rentals
We recommend that you rent a car on the island as it is difficult to get around otherwise. Various types of jeeps and enclosed sedans are available. Due to limited supply, we recommend you let us know your preference as early as possible. During peak season, we can only reserve but not guarantee the car type.

Flight/Airline Schedules
Please double check local airline schedules close to your travel date as there may be changes without notice. You must reconfirm with Windward, Air Caraibes, and Air St. Thomas at least 24 hours prior to your departure from St Barts.

Check-in
Upon airport arrival and following immigration, you will be welcomed by a representative of HomeinStBarts in the arrivals hall who will give you your check-in documents and will escort you to your villa. Check-in time for both villas and cars is after 3 pm.

Departure
Villa check-out time is before noon. We ask your cooperation in leaving on time since your maid may have very little time to prepare for the arrival of the next guests. Failure to check out by noon may result in an additional fee.

Weather Information
You can find the most up to date information on the weather from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

Clothing
St Barts is a very laid back holiday island and apart from not entering shops in bathing suits, dress is casual. Even in the most elegant restaurants, suits and ties are not necessary, in fact it would appear out of place. The style is casual but smart.

Grocery
There are 3 large stores on the island (AMC in Gustavia, Superette de l'aeroport, and Marche U directly across from the airport) which offer a wonderful selection of meats, and other basic products.

In-Villa supplies
HomeinStBarts offers the possibility to provide a personalized list of provisions for guests to find directly in the villa upon arrival.

Catering/Chef Service
We are happy to arrange one of our recommended chefs to prepare meals in your villa. Contact our concierge team in advance to be connected with a chef for menu planning.

Spa Services
Book your in-villa massage and spa services before you arrive on the island with our concierge team.

Babysitting
Please let us know well in advance if you require this service as well as the needed days and hours. Babysitting is difficult to arrange and nearly impossible to have on a full-time basis. Please also make sure you tell us if you need a crib or a high chair for your children.

Hair Salon
Enhance the beauty of your hair at Salon Fostokjian with Christophe Fostokjian, beautician, colorist, beauty consultant and a pioneer of "Great Lengths" hair extensions on St Barts. Located in St Jean village, phone 590- 297-572.

Pets
Pets of any kind are usually not allowed in any of the villas without written permission from HomeinStBarts. Please make sure you mention you wish to travel with a pet at the moment of booking in order to ask the permission of the owner.

Electricity/Voltage
The voltage on St Barts is 220v, 60 cycles, not 110v as in the United States. If you intend to bring razors, hairdryers, chargers, etc., we suggest you bring plug adapters and a transformer to change from square to round pins. These are also available on the island (Alma's Hardware does carry transformers and plug adapters).

Linens
All villas usually include daily maid service, except Sundays and Holidays. All linens are provided in your rental home - sheets, towels, beach towels, etc. You may want to bring an extra beach towel with you.

Telephones
Most villas have telephones and are able to receive international calls, and to make local and international calls through a call-back system. An imprint of a credit card will be taken at check-in to cover any long distance calls.

Cell Phones
If you choose to bring your own cell phone with you, you can dial zero upon your arrival, and talk with a local operator who will take a credit card number from you, set up an account, and assign you a local number. OR, you can purchase a cell phone and a phone card on the island at the gas station across the airport.

Faxes
Fax machines are available for rent if they are not already included in your villa rental.

Credit Cards
Most establishments accept credit cards, but you may want to bring enough cash and/or travelers checks to last throughout your stay. There are three ATM machines on the island: two in Gustavia and one near the airport, which will give you Euros. The American Express representative will allow clients to buy American Express travelers checks with your AMEX card. You will need your passport or a piece of identification with your name and photo.
